Defunt Cellucam: EDEATECH Takes Over Full Ownership

It was rather a brief ceremony at the Cabinet meeting hall of the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday for a history making event. Two important acts crowned the event: the signing of the report on the transfer of risk from the defunct Paper Pulping Company (CELLUCAM) to the newly created company, Edea Technopole Services Corporation (Edea-Tech S.A) and the handing of the key of the industrial site to Edea-Tech. All these were done to concretise the official takeover of the Ex-CELLUCAM site, its infrastructure and equipment. The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang who presided over the ceremony recalled the context within which the project is going into execution. The Head of State in his end-of –year speech to the nation on December 31, 2009, clearly announced the commencement of the activities of the Edea-Tech come 2010, he said, stating inter alia that the project is the fruit of long studies scrupulously carried out by the State and its partners. The final decision to hand over the structures of Ex-CELLUCAM to Edea-Tech was concretized in March, 2008 through the signing of an agreement between the State and COMEFIN an Italian company, holder of 65 percent of the shares of Edea-Tech. According to the agreement, the National Investment Corporation (SNI) will own 25 percent of the shares, MINFI, 5 percent and the Edea Urban Council, 5 percent. All the shareholders were represented at yesterday’s ceremony. Signing on behalf of the government was, Badel Ndanga Ndinga. In the same vein, Dieudonné Nzoke, Board Chairman of the company who doubles as Government Delegate for Edea Urban Council, signed for Edea- Tech. The event was a logical follow up of the appointment of the pioneer management team of the company, a day earlier. These include: Franco Mastrantonio as General Manager, and Jean Atangana, senior electrician and former ship captain at the Douala Autonomous port as Director of Operations. Edea-Tech has as mission to put into use the logistics of Ex-CELLUCAM by facilitating among others, activities of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in sectors such as wood processing, automobile maintenance, energy production, water treatment etc. The Italian Ambassador, H.E. Stefano Pontesilli, who was present at yesterday’s ceremony expressed his country’s gratitude to take part in the project stating that more investors in the industrial sector will be coming in from Italy to carryout survey and establish partnership in Cameroon.
