Beaming Positive Images Of Cameroon Abroad

The sterling images of President Paul Biya with the top brass of the executive, legislature and judiciary of Brazil and the inauguration of a high profile new Cameroon Embassy in Brasilia continue to attract an International audience. The official visit of President Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya to Brazil has dramatically increased the positive visibility of Cameroon’s diplomacy in the South American Continent. Given the weight and size of Brazil’s economic and Political preponderance in the continent, it inevitably takes the image of the diplomatic capital of Latin America. In harmony therefore with the greater achievements policy of President Paul Biya, a new embassy building for Cameroon has been acquired in Brasilia. The share size, architectural design and physical location of the structure emit images of the importance Cameroon attachés to the South American continent in general and Brazil in particular. Occupying a surface area of three thousand square metres and built in 2009, the new embassy building is situated in a high profile sector of Brasilia that hosts embassies and residences for Ambassadors. The Official inauguration of the new embassy by the Minister of External Relations, Henri Eyebe Ayissi yesterday in Brasilia was a major media and diplomatic event.

Scores of top personalities drawn from the diplomatic community in Brasilia and host government officials were on hand to witness the occasion and also to admire this hallmark of greater achievement. Ambassador Martin Agbor Mbeng who has been in Brasilia for two years now attributes this achievement to President Paul Biya whose high instructions he strove to implement. The new Embassy, plus the Ambassador’s residence in Brasilia ignites patriotism and pride in Cameroonians in this part of the World.

In continuation of his official visit in Brazil last Wednesday, President Paul Biya visited the Senate, the Parliament and the Supreme Court of Brazil. Received on arrival by Senate President Jose Sarney, they discussed the experience of the Brazilian Senate, its functioning and its importance in the democratic landscape. President Paul Biya told the Senators of his plan to complete the putting into place of a Senate in Cameroon that will benefit from the Brazilian experience. Since no one comes to Brazil without mentioning the word “football’, it resurfaced on the menu of discussions at the Senate. President Paul Biya expressed the hope of having a Brazilian trainer for the indomitable Lions in the near future. Before signing the golden book and visiting the hemicycle where senatorial debates take place, the President was given some documents.

The next stage in the legislative visit was the Brazilian Parliament, where President Paul Biya was received by its President Michel Temer. The issue of Brazil’s deserved entry at the United Nations Security Council was revisited with President Paul Biya insisting that his host has all it takes to be a permanent member. At the Supreme Court of Brazil, President Paul Biya Signed the golden book and exchanged gifts with the President of this high judicial organ. The visits to the Judiciary and legislative organs of Brazil by President Paul Biya came to compliment the meetings with the executive arm, giving a complete picture of the political landscape of Brazil. In his resolve to building lasting vectors of democracy in Cameroon, President Paul Biya sees the checks and balance of the triple arms of a political dispensation as a reflection of a people’s true will. As an ardent promoter of democracy, President Biya’s visit to the Brazilian legislature and judiciary re-enforced Cameroon’s image as an island of peace and democratic stability. The visible images of a huge embassy building occupying a vast expanse of a zone in Brasilia and a President Paul Biya very much at ease in the legislative and judiciary outfits of an emerging World power have been beaming positively to a watching international audience.
