Students and teachers have fully begun lessons at first day of School in Douala.

Students, pupils and teachers in Douala have begun classes seriously for the academic year 2010/2011. This term which is usually called the first term is the longest term and the term where most of the syllabus has to be covered. It also comes at a time where the students have spent a long vacation and most of them where already exhausted and felt like going back to school as some of the pupils confessed to CT. Most of the schools visited showed some seriousness in the campuses as they were unusually quiet and the students where in their classrooms receiving lessons. Even in classes were there were no teachers, they students were still present and on their seats.

At the Government Bilingual High School, Deido, the campus was very quiet and the students were all in their classrooms receiving lectures. There were also teachers on campus who do not have lectures for the day but where still present in school. Some of the teachers who spoke to CT testified that the beginning of the school year has begun with force and excitement especially in the part of the students. Most of them who had lessons testified they were surprised at the turn out because it was unusual for a first day at school. They said compared to last year, classes started lackadaisically and so lessons were very slow and they had to struggle to catch up their syllabus before the end of the academic year. A teacher said he believes with the good start the end will be better in terms of the results.

On his part the principal Ebone Paul said this good start is the doing of God because all the teachers were present in school as well as the students. On the other hand there are a few schools which have their own system especially private and mission schools where all students are not yet present. In St. Lawrence High School in Akwa, The whole school was not yet present because they start reopening class by class. They have begun with form ones and the next day will be form twos, right to next week Tuesday the 14th September that upper sixth students will begin.
