Congo’s Outgoing Ambassador Lauds Relations

Prime Minister Philemon Yang yesterday received in audience Eric Epeny Obondzo.

The outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to Cameroon, Eric Epeny Obondzo yesterday, September 6, highlighted a number of projects he executed within his five years at the head of his country’s diplomatic mission in Cameroon to make relations between the countries more dynamic.
Speaking to the press after a farewell audience with Cameroon’s Prime Minister Philemon Yang, Eric Epeny Obondzo cited the holding of the Cameroon-Congo Mixed Commission that took place in the Congolese capital, Brazzaville, in January 2009. He said the major decisions taken during the Mixed Commission have to be executed by technicians to strengthen bilateral relations. Congo,  by then, he stated,  needed to adopt a more dynamic approach in projecting its image, considering that  the country  just came out of a period of lethargy caused by wars.

Within the past five years, Epeny Obondzo said, Congo’s General Consulate was opened in the Cameroon economic capital, city Douala.  Congo’s National Shippers’ Council Office has also been opened at the Douala Port, ambassador disclosed.  “We were working to open Congo’s Customs’ Office in Douala before the Head of State decided to call me back home”, the diplomat stated, expressing the wish for his successor to continue with the earmarked projects.

Ambassador Epeny Obondzo in a press interview lauded the good relations he had with the Cameroonian authorities and the people. He said the hallmark of the cordial relations came when  President Paul Biya of Cameroon decorated him with the medal of the Cameroon National Order of Valour. During his five years stay in Cameroon, the outgoing Ambassador of Congo travelled to the north, east, west and south of the country where he confirmed the saying that, “Cameroon is Africa in miniature”. He also learned a lot from Cameroon in the education and agricultural sectors. Eric Epeny Obondzo goes back to Congo after serving in his country’s diplomatic missions abroad since 1990 and after having worked in all Central African countries. Back home, he would wish to serve Congo in any other capacity within the national territory.
