Bafoussam: Chief of Bafoussam Encourages Development Through Culture

The paramount ruler of Bafoussam chief Njitack Ngompe Pele has declared that culture will remain a tool to safe guard sustainable development and maintenance of peace and security. He stressed that the recent measures adopted by the Bafoussam palace to encourage non-indigenes in the promotion of the culture Bafoussam, is also to bring these non-indigenes in the socio-economic development policies of Bafoussam villages.Chief Njitack Ngompe Pele was addressing journalists recently to throw more light on the notable title of “ma Mafoo” given to Mme Achey Beatrice Epose Nkenfack, that is been contested by some elite and politicians of Bafoussam.

Using the adage, that a good neighbour is better than a bad brother chief Njitack Ngompe remarked that out of preserving the Bafoussam cultural heritage, the Bafoussam kingdom is out to encourage private initiatives that shall encourage people involved in the development issues of Bafoussam, on a non-profit basis. He regretted that the legitimate sons of Bafoussam villages who were given positions of responsility to develop Bafoussam have failed, and even refused to give accountability on development funds raised by elite.

Chief Njitack Ngompe Pele, said his palace has recognised the key role Mme Nkenfack Beatrice has played in the development process through her private initiative. He cited the Bafoussam village health centre, and other development projects that Mme Nkenfack has contribute much and deserved to be appreciated. “Notable titles are traditional ways of promotion like in administration, where government raise the position of civil servants for hard work”, chief Njitack Ngompe noted. He said the title “Ma Mafo” Achey Beatrice is her own compensation for hard work to the development of Bafoussam village. He said Ma Mafo Nkenfack will officially come out of “Kam” traditional initiation on 26th September 2010. He said the ceremony will be attended by senior administrators of the Region, Diplomatic corp and cultural partners, adding that over 4000 people are expected to attend. Out of many traditional dances, drawn from Bafoussam, some musicians have been invited to animate the 26th September 2010 ceremony.

The chief of Bafoussam has therefore challenged those feet dragging elite, who are campaign against the enthronement of ma Mafo Nkenfack; to come as development partners. He said the major objective of the 26th September will be the promotion and development of cultural heritage and sametime strengthen cultural cooperation between public and private sectors, indigenes and non-indigenes who can contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of Bafoussam. Maintime preparation are hitting up for this very important ceremony.
