Stakeholders in the country’s ten-year development plan, contained in the Growth and Employment Strategy Paper, are poised to surmount challenges and attain the objectives when the impact of the programme will be evaluated in 2010. Secretaries-General in various government ministries and other stakeholders met in Yaounde yesterday Wednesday September 22, 2010 to evaluate the efforts thus far since the plan went operational in January 2010, reflect on projects that can integrate the plan as well as on what could be done in 2011.
Speaking during the meeting at the Yaounde Conference Centre, the Secretary General of Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Paul Tasong, said, the aim is to ensure that step by step “we attain the objectives which were set for the first ten years, in line with the vision of making Cameroon an emerging economy by 2035.
The meeting was part of an envisaged monthly technical capacity building come together grouping Secretaries-General of government ministries. Like Mr Tasong, other participants were unanimous that there is need to ensure a proper evaluation of the plan so that by 2015, everything would have been put in place for the impact to be felt by 2020 when the final assessment will be made. The first year of the programme, participants said, will be evaluated in February 2011.
The growth and employment strategy paper is government’s socio-economic key policy framework document which focuses on government’s priority areas aimed at encouraging sustained economic growth. This requires investment in infrastructure, energy and production, especially agro pastoral.
