It was against this backdrop that after visiting some ELECAM Council areas he told Cameroon Tribune about ELECAM’s commitment to emerge with free, fair, transparent and credible elections in Cameroon. Dr. Fonkam Azu’u was categorical that doubting Thomases do not understand ELECAM’s role. He said the quarrel is “not about ELECAM but with who ELECAM members are”. It was against this background that Dr.Fonkam Azu’u argued that until ELECAM members have worked, they cannot be judged and concluded to be bias. “Talking about our neutrality is no more topical. We are committed to do work in an objective and verifiable manner. The process can be controlled. Our duty is not to disfranchise anybody. It is all about applying the law. You do not say that white is black just because you were a former member of a political party. Our intrinsic qualities are taken into our job at ELECAM. Our integrity is difficult to challenge simply on the basis of once belonging to a political party. It is time for Cameroonians to concentrate on things that can be verified”.
