Junior ACN 2011 : Cameroon One Step into Final Round

They beat their counterpart from the Republic of Congo, 1-0 in the away leg match counting for the last qualifying round of the tournament.

Cameroon has taken a good option towards qualifying for the final round of the 17th Orange Africa Under-20 Championship (CAN) to take place in Libya next year. In the away leg match counting for the last qualifying round for the tournament played in Pointe Noire, the junior Lions edged their host, 1-0. The victory marks a great step towards qualification in that even a draw would have been a good result given that the Congolese are reputed dangerous playing at home.

Rwanda learnt the lesson at their own expense for after beating Congo 2-1 in Kigali, the Congolese turned the tables in the return leg, beating Rwanda 2-0 to qualify for this stage of the competition. Cameroon has equally confirmed the top form demonstrated from the on set of the qualifiers. Cameroon trounced the Central African Republic 4-0 in the away leg in Garoua and went on to beat the Red Devils in their own very backyard in Bangui, 1-0 to qualify on a 5-1 aggregate. With the advantage obtained in Pointe Noire, Cameroon is one step into the final round of the tournament. However, the Junior Lions have to remain cautious not to be stunned by an unpleasant surprise from the Congolese during the return leg match which is expected to take place in a fortnight in Yaounde.

The junior lions are gunning for the continental trophy which eluded them during the last edition of the tournament in Rwanda when they were beaten in the final by the reigning champions, Ghana.
