Preparatory activities were launched in a press conference in Yaounde on Tuesday.
The 16th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope will feature many innovations that had hitherto not existed in the past. Outside mountaineering which is the principle activity of the event, there will be other sports disciplines and cultural activities to add to the glamour of the event. The revelation was made by the president of the Cameroon athletics federation, Jacques Sebastien Mbous, on Tuesday, September 28, 2010during a press conference to kick start preparatory activities at the premises of the National Olympic and Sports Committee in Yaounde. Then federation president said they wanted to make the 2011 edition of the race a resounding success both in terms of organisation and popular participation reason why the race has been placed under the theme, “together to win it”
In addition to the traditional activities which usually go along with the race such as traditional dances, bazaars, mobile animation caravans and musical concerts, the race will for the first time witness a display of paragliding, trialong and squat by some foreign partners of the athletics federation. There will equally be the inclusion of other sports disciplines such as handball, professional wrestling, rolling on skate boards and volleyball to give the event the pomp it deserves. The federation equally intends to give a preponderant role to Miss Mount Cameroon.
Sebastien Mbous also took advantage of the occasion to present a balance sheet of the activities of the federation and make projections on the coming year. He announced that Cameroon won a total of 69 medals in 2009/2010 gold, 30 silver and 19 bronze. Emphasis in the 2011 sports season will be placed on organising cross country, semi marathon and mountain races and to organised training courses for trainers, officials and journalists. The national championship will take place in five days instead of four as in the past. In the bill up to the event, Reggie Pub firm has designed three categories of advertisement packages for sponsors namely; platinum, silver and gold.
