Economic Dev't: Government Concerts With German, Korean Bizmen

A delegation of German businessmen and Korea’s Ambassador to Cameroon were received in separate audiences by the MINIMIDT boss wednesday.

A group of Korean businessmen, notably those operating in the mining sector, will be in Cameroon on October 28, 2010 to explore ways of partnering with government in boosting the sector in the country. Korea’s Ambassador to Cameroon, Ho-Sung Lee, made the disclosure yesterday during an audience granted him by Cameroon’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Technological Development, Badel Ndanga Ndinga. The Korean diplomat said Cameroon has enormous potentials in minerals and a sustainable partnership with Korean, endowed with expertise in the sector, could greatly lift the sector and contribute in no small way to the development of the country. He said his audience with Mr Ndanga Ndinga also permitted them to review ongoing Korean projects in the country, like the Mobilong diamond project in the East Region.

The audience was followed with yet another granted a delegation of German business people who are in Cameroon within the framework of the Germano-Cameroon economic forum to officially go underway in Douala tomorrow. Speaking to the press after meeting with the minister and his close aids, the delegation leader, Stefan Liebing, said Cameroon, with resources of all sorts, could benefit from German technology, through strong companies interested to set up businesses in the country. He said their discussions with the Minister touched on wide-ranging sectors like electricity, engineering services, agriculture and so on. “This is a good start for a long-term relationship that we want to build with Cameroon”, Mr Stefan Liebang said. Mr Ndanga Ndinga rejoiced that at a time government is unwavering in speeding up development, in all its forms and in all sectors, partnering with advanced countries like these could not but be welcomed. The delegation members equally made stopovers in other ministries directly involved with the day-to-day economic development of the country.

The Germano-Cameroon economic forum which began yesterday with the audiences is placed under the theme, “How to Develop German Investments in Cameroon”. It will permit actors of both the private and public sectors of the two countries to seek ways of collaborating on win-win basis to accelerate economic development in the two countries. Before the official opening ceremony, the delegation will today hold working sessions with officials of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation, SNH, and the National Investment Corporation, SNI. The Minister of Industries, Mines and Technological Development, Badel Ndanga Ndinga will represent the Prime Minister at the official opening ceremony of the forum in Douala tomorrow.
