The Ambassador of China to Cameroon, Xue Jinwei says his country will always support Cameroon’s defence forces in its efforts to maintain peace, security, national integrity and sub-regional stability. He was speaking at the Joint Services Technical Training Centre (CFTA) of the Cameroon military in Ekonou, Yaounde, while handing over military materials from the Chinese government to Cameroon’s armed forces.
The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o who presided at the ceremony, received the materials on behalf of the Cameroon government. The materials comprised of 2200 non-metallic helmets, 2200 bullet proof heavy helmets, 2200 combat bags, 2200 impermeable raincoats, 45 camouflage nets, 2200 individual beds, 2200 individual shovels, 2200 sleeping bags, 2200 water bottles, 2200 complete gamelles, five mobile camping kitchens and 45 36-person capacity tents. The Chinese diplomat described the gifts of military materials as a sign of the vitality and multi-dimensional cooperation between China and Cameroon.
Reacting to the Chinese gesture, Cameroon’s Defence Minister Mebe Ngo’o praised the military cooperation between the two countries which he said was varied, multi-facetted and dates back to many years. He expressed delight that the Chinese ambassador paid homage to Cameroon’s defence forces for the role they played in the peaceful resolution of the Cameroon-Nigeria border conflict over the Bakassi peninsula. Cameroon, the Defence Minister said, will always work together with China to consolidate and further diversify bilateral cooperation ties. The ceremony took place in the presence of Cameroon’s senior military officials.
