The World Bank Lead Public Health Specialist for Human Development 3, for the Africa Region, Benjamin P. Loevinsohn said the project is a complement to the existing World Bank projects in the country to support investment in the health sector called “PIAISS” in French. The Results-Based Funding which begins in the Littoral Region through the Littoral Special Fund will serve as the intermediary charged with interpreting performance from health districts using funds from the World Bank. According to the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, the reform will go a long way to intensify the fight against HIV, reinforce health services in the country, fight against infant and maternal mortality as well ameliorate health goals in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In future, the special subsidiary fund will be extended to South-West, North-West and East Regions of the country.
