Manyu CPDM Mobilises to Lead in Voting Biya

The four CPDM sections jointly celebrated President Biya’s 28th anniversary in power in Mamfe.

The Manyu I (Mamfe Central), Manyu II (Akwaya), Manyu III (Eyumojock) and Manyu IV (Upper Bayang) Sections of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) are determined to lead in voting President Paul Biya whom they say is their natural candidate in the 2011 presidential election. The four sections of the CPDM in Manyu, in a highly animated event, jointly celebrated President Biya’s 28th anniversary at the supreme magistracy in Mamfe town.

On the eve of the celebrations, the President of the CPDM Manyu Divisional Committee for the intensification of voter registration, who doubles as the Minister, Assistant Secretary General at the Presidency, Professor Peter Agbor Tabi commissioned the members of the four Subdivisional Committees and instructed the creation of village and quarter committees so that CPDM members and supporters of President Biya register and vote in the 2011 presidential election. CPDM officials, elite and members have budgeted FCFA 75 million with over FCFA 16 million already contributed to sponsor the party’s activities up to the presidential election, with subventions for the acquisition of National Identity Cards primordial. This is to improve on the 80,908 registered voters the division had in the 2007 double legislative and council elections. The Manyu Divisional branch head of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), Eyong Zachariah Nkwo, said 3,871 new voters have so far registered while 18,186 old voters have cross-checked their names.

Speaking at the anniversary celebration, Professor Agbor Tabi said the 2005 population census results showed that Manyu was one of the most thickly populated divisions in the South West Region and stated that the population advantage must be reflected in votes cast for Biya. He called for unity, solidarity and love among Manyu people as they prepare to vote the CPDM candidate for more development to come. He cited appointment of Manyu people to prominent positions in government, ongoing construction of Bamenda-Manfe-Ekok road and announced the imminent construction of Kumba-Mamfe and Mamfe-Akwaya roads. Chief Tabetando, assistant CPDM Central Committee delegation chairman for the celebration corroborated Professor Agbor Tabi and stressed more on love, unity and solidarity among Manyu people. Two former opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) officials, Tanyisong Akonohtabe and Orock Takang Jackson officially joined the CPDM stating that they needed to be part of the solidarity strive for Manyu development. The other speakers in the event that was also witnessed by the Manyu Senior Divisional Officer, Simo Kamseu Patrick, said Paul Biya was the Division’s natural candidate because of his special love for Manyu. In a motion of support, they promised President Biya 100 per cent votes.
