After a training camp for the detection of professional players based in Europe for eventual integration into the Lion’s den, the technical bench of the national team will from December 13 to 17 organise another training camp this time for home-based players in Yaounde. The information was made public by the assistant coach of the Indomitable Lions, François Omam Biyick, on the sideline of the Caiman-union derby which took place over the weekend in Douala. Omam Biyick said they were remaining true to their promise to prospect new players for the national team and out to respect the pre-established calendar. To match words with action, the assistant coach of the Indomitable lions insisted on attending the opening match of the season before travelling to Vichy and upon his return, attended the derby between Union and Caiman to supervise players of the MTN elite One championship. He said other coaches of the technical directorate were in other stadiums in the country to conduct a similar assignment.
Commenting on the training camp in Vichy- France, he said it gave them a good knowledge about Cameroonian professional players in Europe. Some players he said met up with the expectations whereas those who couldn’t turn up because of injury or illness will be continuously supervised in their respective clubs. “We found players with a good mind set which has not been witnessed in the past”, he said. Concerning the home-based players, he said there was no specific number to be retained after the training camp. He disclosed that there will be a friendly match in February which will enable the technical staff put together the squad that will face Senegal in Dakar in March, 2011. In a related story, Senegalese star defender, Souleymane Diawara, said they were not afraid of Cameroon which has in recent times dropped to the 38th position in Fifa rankings.
