Labour Officials Adopt Expenditure Road Map

This was within the framework of a three-day workshop that opened in Kribi on Monday November 29.

Officials of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security are meeting in a workshop in Kribi to define a short-term expenditure strategy for the ministry. The strategy to span five years, includes budgetary allocations for the fight against HIV/AIDS in enterprises, reinforcing a cordial relationship between employers and employees and avoiding accidents in the work place.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the workshop on Monday November 29 in Kribi, (South Region) the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Prof. Robert Nkili, urged his aides to come up with a detailed programme spelling out the expenditure of the ministry for the next five years. He called on participants to be diligent in their proposals for a practical work guide. He said the plan is to enable his ministry contribute to the nation’s goal of becoming an emerging economy by 2035. He said the initiative was also to chart ways of allocating a precise budget for the National Labour Observatory Programme put in place by government last October.

The experts are expected to prioritize the various projects earmarked for the ministry, evaluate the cost of each project, prepare documents for them and above all, prepare a report on the rate of implementation of the 2009/2010 budget of the ministry. Participants at the workshop also include experts from the Ministries of Economy, Planning and Regional Development as well as Finance. They are expected to draw up a plan that will strengthen and maintain a peaceful, cordial and conducive atmosphere in enterprises in the country. The workshop ends this Wednesday.
