The 2010-2011 cultural and sports season of the University of Yaounde 1, was officially launched at the campus of the institution last Saturday. The event took place in the presence of the Rector of the University of Yoaunde 1, Professor Bouba Oumarou, official of the different institutions of the university as well as guests. Last Saturday’s event was also to mark the beginning of preparations for the up coming 2011 Youth Day celebrations and the University Games to take place in the University of Dschang next year. It was therefore and an opportunity for the students to preen to present to the public a taste of what they will have on the two major occasions. Prior to the event proper, the Rector visited the stands of the different clubs in the university which portray the know how of the students. These include among others the communication club, Commonwealth Club, computer sciences, friends of nature, arts club, health club, science club and majorettes club. Speaking during the occasion, the Director of Students’ affairs, Bievenue Nola congratulated the rector for his efforts in ensuring the functioning of clubs in the university. He however said the clubs face problems such as lack of offices for trainers among others. Professor Oumarou Bouba 2009-2010 academic year was particularly rich in cultural and sports activities. said the performance of the cultural clubs in the university has rendered the institution more visible. As for sports, the Rector reminded the students of the need to improve on their performances do better in the 2011 University Games in order to win back the image of the institution. Professor Oumaoru Bouba assured the students that their demands will be met in the days ahead. A match past by the different clubs and traditional dances animated the occasion. The day ended with a 4x400 relay track event and a feminine football encounter between the Faculty of Sciences and the Higher Teachers Training College (ENS).
