The MTN Elite One championship will enter the 5^th day of play this weekend with a duel at the summit between current league leaders, Coton Sport and 4^th placed, Panthere of Bangante in Garoua. The stakes will be to find out whether Coton Sport is going to consolidate its lead on the championship or be slowed down in their bid for yet another championship title by Panthere. Victory for the Nzuimanto may well propel them to the top position in case of poor results from Ngaoundere University and Unisport who currently occupy the second and third positions respectively.

Union and Ngaoundere University will be involved in the leadership tussle also when they take on Yong Sports Academy and Caiman respectively. With order now restored to the Caiman house, it may prove a difficult nut to crack for Ngaoundere University. It would be recalled that Caiman is the only club to have inflicted a defeat on Coton Sport this season and their 0-2 defeat against Panthere of Bangante on the 4^th day of play can be attributed to the fact that the house was divided. Problems erupted in the club when the President, Adolph Claude Mundi alias Petit Pays dismissed some officials for misappropriation of funds. The dissidents ransacked the club’s headquarters, taking away some club documents. However, following the extra-ordinary congress of the club, Petit Pays was given full powers and the breakaway faction ordered to hand back the documents in their keeping.

While the battle for leadership rages on at the top of the league table, it will be a battle for survival for clubs at the bottom of the chart. Prominent among them is AS Lausanne who are still running after their first victory or draw in the championship. Sable and Renaissance will equally be fighting to leap out of the relegation zone when AS Lausanne and Tiko United respectively.
