Mama Fouda Prescribes Sanitation for Better Health

The Minister of Public health remarked on sanitation during the inauguration of the rehabilitated Nylon district hospital.

Public Health Minister André Mama Fouda has lauded the personnel of the Nylon district hospital for sanitation and cleanliness. He was speaking during the inauguration of the new building offered to the Nylon district hospital by the Doctors without Borders, MSF, in Switzerland and the rehabilitation of the hospital.

Mama Fouda said sanitation is very important, reason why the Health Ministry will seek deep to ameliorate sanitation of the country. He said Nylon is the next hospital in Douala after lacquintinie in handling issues of HIV/AIDS. He said the new building in which FCFA 25million was spent in its construction should be used to better take care of the HIV patients. Mama Fouda called on health workers to continue in the fight against cholera in Manouka and the Southwest Region. He appreciated the Mayor of Douala III for his continuous attachment to the Ministry of Health.

The Chief of Mission of Doctors without Borders, Gael Hob said they have been in cooperation with Cameroon since 2000 and for these 10 years it has been a relationship of sincerity and cooperation. She said their mission has been to handle the cases of HIV of which she said is a reality in Cameroon. And there are many people who are sick and they have more than 3000 patients under their charge. She added that there is a challenge to ameliorate the livelihood of those living with HIV and another challenge was to rehabilitate the hospital and to be available and offer free medication for patients.

On his part the representative of the Mayor of Douala III Manga Zang, appreciated the minister for his continuous support to the Douala III population. He added that Douala III is vulnerable to pandemic illnesses giving the increasing population of 1.2million inhabitants who lack a favourable sanitation condition. He said the new building comes to relief the multiple patients and responsibility of the Nylon hospital which has already been doing a lot.

Zang expressed his gratitude to the MSF for the kind gesture, adding that the council will continue to be faithful in its fundamental mission to contribute to ameliorate the livelihood of the population in sickness. He added that from January 2011, they will intensify the fight against vectors through the disinfection of insects and infections. He said the equipments are already in place. “This is our way of fighting pandemics and priority in Nylon which is more exposed”.

The Minister latter visited The Bonassama hospital and received an ambulance offered to the hospital by the Lion’s Club Orchidée.
