Regional Delegates of the Ministry of Sports and physical Education were yesterday December 14, handed administrative vehicles to ease their movement within their respective regions. Speaking during the ceremony which took place at the Sports Complex in Yaounde, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Michel Zoah said he was happy respecting an engagement he made earlier in the year. He said the vehicles were a necessity and not luxury destined to ease the work of the delegates in the detection of talents in sports and the promotion of sports and physical education activities within their area of jurisdiction. He called on the recipients to use the vehicles solely for the reason for which they were designed for and promised to provide the means to enable the officials maintain the vehicles during the next financial year.
Minister Zoah said the acquisition of the vehicles has not been easy given the financial constraints face by his ministry after the budget of the ministry was reduced in September from three billion to 995 million. The ceremony also witnessed a presentation of the characteristics of the vehicles which are Toyota Hilux equipped with anti theft mechanisms, four-wheel-drive, air-conditioned and adapted to the tropical climate.
“The roads in the North West region are bad and with the type of vehicles we now have, it will easy to ply the roads at all seasons,” Tanyi Henry, the regional Delegate for Sports and Physical education in the North West Region. A view corroborated by his colleague of the South West region, Ekema Able who says he will now be able to move to every nook and cranny without much difficulty.
