Minister Adoum Garoua used the occasion to brief the US Ambassador on what the ministry is doing in terms of assistance programmes for youth in the socio-economic domains. Both men also discussed bilateral cooperation ties between Cameroon and the United States of America and the new National Youth Council that was recently put in place; with the Ambassador reminding the minister of the interest President Obama has for African youth - one of the priorities of his administration. The Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the activities of Peace Corps in the country.
The Youth Affairs Minister explained to the US Ambassador that the youth constitute the bulk of the Cameroonian population, but with a whole lot of problems. The major hurdle, he said, was the high level of unemployment amongst them. Government is not relenting efforts in assisting them find or create jobs through various schemes, the Minister reassured.
