North West Salutes Biya’s Largesse For Region

Prophets of doom shamed after December 8-10, 2010 landmark Presidential visit. The North West Region continues to celebrate and count blessings following the landmark visit of the Head of State, President Paul Biya and First Lady, Chantal Biya on December 8-10, 2010. Away from the creation of the State University of Bamenda and promises that speak, the Region continue to sound off about the President whose outing in Bamenda set records straights for doubting Thomases. That was the subject of a press briefing on December 21, 2010 during which some concerned sons of the Region (Ngufor Njontor Peter, Dr Nick Ngwanyam and Lawan Bako) expressed gratitude to President Biya for the visit which came to unblock the hitherto negative notion of the North West and confirm the Region as truly President Biya’s second home. Sizing up the level of success of the event, Ngufor Peter said the Presidential couple met a Region at peace with itself contrary to some prophets of doom who often paint and give the area a dark image. They sounded off about the blessings of the visit questioning, “What more do we expect from the Head of State that he has not already done?” They were categorical about the overall success of the visit because “the first Lady of the Nation, Chantal Biya was most relaxed while in Bamenda, the President spent an extra day with promises to be back again and even a dam on the Menchum Falls that was not asked was promised”. They hailed President Biya for understanding the Bamenda man and disproving rumour mongers and prophets of doom. In the short and long of it, they stated preparedness to show more gratitude during the 2011 Presidential elections.

It was the civilian reception of December 8, 2010 that made things happen between the population of the North West and their President. The Organisers of the briefing recalled an earlier briefing of April 30, 2010 during which they pleaded with the Head of State to accept a civilian reception after the 50th anniversary of the Armed Forces in Bamenda. The reception according to them was incumbent to enable President Biya size up the level of his popularity in the Region. They equally predicted that the Head of State will make landmark pronouncements in Bamenda. Ngufor Peter, Lawan Bako and Dr Nick Ngwanyam concluded that President Biya’s visit closed the gap in differences among North West sons and daughters and sent people who triumph in rumour and blackmail out of business. “The North West scored points during the visit and it is time to properly manage the victory”, they said.
