While officially opening the Mini-Agro- Pastoral show at the Bamenda Big Mankon Stadium, the Minister Delegate to the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ananga Messina Clementine appreciated the efforts of the farmers. She said the show during this festive period will influence the prize in the market and pull it downwards. She said the show is also an opportunity to ensure food security and food self sufficiency, supply agricultural products to national and regional markets, earn foreign exchange by exporting agricultural products, contribute to the fight against unemployment by creating long lasting job in rural areas as well as to contribute to the consolidation of social peace and stability of the nation. She equally disclosed that special measures have been taken to transport farmers and their products to Ebolowa. She announced that her ministry is bent on revamping the agricultural sector in Cameroon reason why it has embarked on the promotion of medium farmers, allocated over 2 billion to the Upper Noun Valley Development Authority, UNVDA, for the production of rice. The programme will also go a long way to encourage all a sundry to embarked on mechanized agriculture, putting in place of an Agricultural Bank, opening and maintaining of farm to market roads amongst others. She equally requested the organisers of the min-agro pastoral show to reduce the registration prices to enable more farmers to participate as most farmers can not afford the cfa 70,000 needed for registration.
The launching of the Mini-Agro pastoral show also gave the minister the opportunity to offer gifts worth 20 million to the farmers. The gifts made up of bags of fertilizers, sprayers, pesticides, insecticides, water cans, cutlasses, buckets, hoes, wheel barrows amongst others.
