Among the priority projects will be sustained research on malaria, ethno-medical studies on antiviral plants and evaluation of therapeutic strategies on the treatment of HIV/AIDS with traditional medicines. According to a final communiqué that sanctioned the board meeting, attention will equally be focused on research on emerging and re-emerging diseases, financing of the production of improved traditional medicines, creation of a botanical garden for medicinal plants, acquisition of scientific and technical equipment for medicinal laboratories among others. Administratively, IPMP will construct a technical and administrative complex for itself, organise a colloquium to evaluate the therapeutic strategies on traditional medicine as well as strive to foster inventions and research on medicinal plants.
Created by a Presidential Decree of October 31, 1974 and today placed under the auspices of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation, IMPM has as mission to animate medical research, promote and diffuse medical research results in the county as well as train and build the capacities of medical researchers for internal and external use.
