New Board Chair Promises Improved Services

Prof. Seraphin Magloire Fouda made the pledge in an interview in the latest issue of AES SONEL’s bi-monthly magazine. The new board chair of the National Electricity Company, AES SONEL, Prof. Seraphin Magloire Fouda has stated his determination to boost the performance of the company in order to better play its socio-economic role. In an interview in the 21st edition of the company’s bi-monthly magazine, ‘AES-SONEL Today,’ published late last year, the board chair said the Head of State was bent on seeing Cameroon’s energy, and especially, electric power generation capacity improve significantly so as to serve as catalyst for economic growth. Such performance, he acknowledged, can only be attained by maintaining regular dialogue between the board and the company’s American partners.

Prof. Fouda described the recent AES SONEL board meeting as holding in an atmosphere of friendship and understanding; adding that such a spirit was vital for the board and company executive to focus on ongoing important investment projects like the Yassa power plant in Douala. He promised that the two sides would work for the improvement of service delivery, saying he felt elated at being given the opportunity to be involved in the management of the company at a time it was carrying out important power generation projects.

The latest edition of the bi-monthly publication has as cover story highlights of the November 2010 visit of a parliamentary delegation to the company’s Koumassi-Douala headquarters and other plants. Led by House Speaker Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, the team came calling as part of the Second Parliamentary Forum on AES SONEL Activities.

The 22-page glossy magazine also revisits the recent winning by the company of a ‘Corporate Image’ award for its marketing and communication strategies. Awarded by Regie Stars, the magazine recalls that this was not the first time the company was winning an award by the agency.

Other highlights of the edition include efforts being made to be more customer friendly, information on how electric power is generated and safety tips on use of electricity and electrical appliances. The issue lauds the company’s achievements since going operational in the country in 2001, presenting highlights of its present economic strides, staff strength and electric power generation capacity.
