In a press declaration after the audience, Mr Toufik Milat said the conference will serve as an opportunity for the ministers to discuss evolutions in the mining and industrial sectors in the continent as well as jointly seek ways of working in synergy to boost the sectors, which he said, have proved to be veritable development catalysts in other parts of the world. “We hope that the Minister would find time to participate and contribute to the development of the important sectors in the continent”, he wished. He added that besides meeting to evaluate steps taken by each government to develop the mining and industrial sectors, the Algerian rendezvous could as well serve as a contact point between stakeholders in the sectors with possibilities of clinching partnership deals.
According to a declaration of the 18th Conference of the African Ministers of Industries that held in Durban, South Africa from October 24 – 28, 2008, the Ministers agreed to strengthen and diversify the continent’s productive capacity, especially in the manufacturing and service industries, develop and exploit economies of scale through regional integration as well as develop and exploit the continent’s export potentials in high value products.
