Livestock Ministry Prepares For Agro pastoral Show

Guests to the upcoming Ebolowa Agro pastoral Show will be thrilled by the various species of animals and technical know-how exhibited. A major attraction of this year’s agro pastoral show village in Ebolowa will no doubt be the site reserved for the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, MINEPIA. According to the exhibition site plan published by the ministry, animals will be grouped into eight different sectors, exhibiting products in bee-farming, poultry, non-conventional animals, pigs, small ruminants, cattle, horses, camels, donkeys and fisheries.

MINEPIA officials say their participation at the agro pastoral show will showcase the successes of the ministry’s strategies over the years to improve production. The efforts also aim at improving variety and hygiene in foodstuffs of animal origin through a variety of projects and institutions set up to provide training and financial support to farmers.

To spur the interest of visitors, MINEPIA authorities have subdivided the exhibition site into eight major sectors hosting stands and lodges. In the bee farming or apiculture sector, 22 exhibitors from 10 regions will exhibit honey, bee wax and their bi-products. While 59 exhibitors in the poultry or aviculture sector will showcase varieties of birds such as chicken, guinea fowls, ducks, turkeys, geese and peacocks. MINEPIA will also give a special place to non-conventional livestock such as cane rats, rabbits, quails, rats, guinea pigs and snails, to be exhibited by 45 exhibitors from six regions. They intend to demonstrate how this sector has been playing an increasingly important role in biodiversity conservation, diversification of food from animal origin and wealth creation.

The pig sector will also be present at the show with 30 exhibitors from six regions showcasing their know-how and record-breaking soars, boars and piglets produced from their piggeries. A total of 37 exhibitors from seven regions will also exhibit in the small ruminants sector with animals such as sheep and goats. Cattle, camels and donkeys will be a major attraction of the livestock sector where 60 exhibitors from seven regions will showcase over 160 animals as well as processed meat and dairy products. Fish ponds and aquaria have been set up to host various species of fish, shrimps and other products of aquaculture exhibited by 27 exhibitors from two regions.

Finally, MINEPIA has also allocated stands to the different training and technical institutions as well as projects run under the ministry to exhibit their know-how and research findings that will propel the livestock and animal sector to greater production in the years ahead.
