Fanfare, Anxiety, Expectation

The Presidential couple arrived in Ebolowa by road amidst all ecstasy from the population.

The population of Ebolowa joined the inhabitants of Malakat, a little village located at the doorway into the town to give President Paul Biya and wife, Chantal Biya a deserved reception. The stage was well set to render the entry of the Head of State and wife into the town eventful and history making. The Presidential Guard band, the combined military guard of honour and members of the local administration headed by Governor, Jules Marcelin Ndjaga, were all on hand almost two hours ahead of time. Equally present at the welcome ceremony were traditional chiefs, followers of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), school children drawn from some of the secondary schools in town, a variety of dance groups and curious members of the population.
The Presidential limousine alighted from the final bend into the town at exactly 11:10 a.m. The first personality to shake hands with the President and wife was the governor. Second gesture of welcome was the offering of the bouquet of flowers to the President accompanied by soothing words from a young girl. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, the inspection of the guard of honour, introduction and greeting of the regional constituted corps, the population and smooth drive off to the residence.
