They are now six points clear from the runners-up Unisport.
Thanks to the 3-1 victory over their fellow brothers from the North Region and the 0-1 defeat suffered by Union against Renaissance of Ngoumou, Coton Sport of Garoua has widened its leadership margin at the help of the championship to five points. The Colossus from the North now top the classification chart with 23 points followed by Unisport of the Upper Nkam Division who trounced Tiko United 3-0 on the 10th day of play over the weekend to dethrone the Nassaras Kamakai from the second to third position after the defeat against Renaissance of Ngoumou.
The expected shake-up at the bottom of the table did not take place as A.S. Lausanne was once more thrashed 0-3 by Astres of Douala. The victory enables the Brazilians of Bepanda to gain three places on the league table moving from the 7th to the 4th position whereas AS Lausanne sinks further down the drain as they are yet to register their first victory in the championship. The status quo is equally maintained for Scorpion and Tiko United who are still in the red zone occupying the 12th and 13th positions respectively after recording defeats last Sunday. Yong Sports and Renaissance Ngoumou secured their places in the middle of the table after recording spectacular victories against Caiman and Union respectively.
The 10th day of play also witnessed the player of the month award which for the month of December went to Alain Assana of the University of Ngaoundere. Alain Assana bagged home a trophy and the sum of FCFA300.000 in a ceremony at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde prior to the curtain raiser between Canon and the University of Ngaoundere which unfortunately his team lost 1-2 to the Kpa-Kum Boys. The player of the month award was introduced in the 2009/2010 season by the official sponsor of the championship, MTN. He is designated by the coaches of the elite championship who after each encounter are called upon to choose the best two players from the opposing team. The first player is attributed five points and the second, three points. Alain Assana received 20 points followed by Essosso of Canon Yaounde with 16 points.
