Cameroon-Macedonia : Assou Ekotto, Joel Matip Join the Fray

Their names were added to the list of players to take part in the encounter.

As was expected there has been a re-adjustment on the list of players called up to defend the national colours against Macedonia with the inclusion of Benoit Assou Ekotto and Joel Matip, taking the number of short listed players to 21. Though no explanation has been given for the inclusion of the two players, it suspected not to be unconnected to the pronouncements of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Michel Zoah during the preparatory meeting for the encounter at the conference hall of his ministry with officials of Fecafoot and the administrative bench of the national team. Yet some questions remain pending as to who selected the two players? Fecafoot or the Minister of Sports and Physical Education. In either case, this will constitute inference in the job of Javier Clemente and his assistant, Omam Biyik who had justified the non selection of the inured Tottenham defender to lack of form which is questionable given Assou Ekotto has been a regular player with his club side whereas other player who do not feature regularly with their club sides were called up. However the announced press conference to be held by the technical staff of the Indomitable Lions is going to throw more light on the issue.
In a related development, there has been a new development in what is now convenient to refer to as the ‘Emana affair’. After his lawyer, Jean Marie Nouga, refuted claims that his client granted the incriminating interview to the Spanish web side Sofoott.com during the hearing with the Disciplinary and Homologation Committee of Fecafoot, the editor of the virtual sports journal, Rico Rizzitelli, has reaffirmed that Achille Emana actually granted the interview and that their reporter, Carlos Yague, negotiated the interview through his club side Betis Seville. Meanwhile tension is beginning to mount in the build-up to the Senegal-Cameroon encounter next March 25, counting for the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012. Senegalese star striker, Moussa Sow is said to have declared that the encounter against Cameroon is going to be a difficult one and not like the Mauritius Island they trounced 7-0. He said they will have to be highly concentrated in order to grab the three points of the match.
