Cameroon Youths March For Peace, Stability

Thousands of youths last Thursday, February 10 marched in the streets of Yaounde to demonstrate their patriotism and commitment to preserve peace, stability and development in Cameroon. The march in support of President Paul Biya and the institution he incarnates was in reaction to the wind of violence and destabilisation of State institutions blowing across some African countries.

“When we see what is happening in Tunisia, Egypt, next door Gabon and tracts being circulated in Cameroon, the youths feel attempts at destabilising the country”. This was the declaration of the organiser of the support march, Evariste Abessolo, National President of the Association for the Support of Democracy in Cameroon (ASDECA).  This association co-organised the Yaounde march with the Cameroon National Youth Council. Mr Abessolo in an interview said all development projects in Cameroon can only be realised in a peaceful atmosphere and said they intend to organise similar support marches in other big towns of the country.

The patriotic youths marched from the Yaounde 20th May Avenue to the roundabout in front of the Governors Office and back. They carried messages in banners and T-shirts such as: All Cameroonian youths behind President Paul Biya, No to manipulation and destabilistion of our country; no to destruction and yes to construction; Cameroonian youth unity builds the nation; youth Gendarmes of peace in Cameroon; and we love our country and support the Head of State. The event was punctuated by musical animation.
