Mbatcham Eric, race champion for 2011 (Senior male category).
“I had to follow the Kenyans behind right up to Hut II. I knew they are very good at marathon. Then I passed them and made a distance while climbing. I am 27 years old. I come from Donga Mantung Division in the North West Region. After my GCE Advanced Level, I have been trying to enter the Higher Institute of Youth and Sports since four years to no avail. My greatest dream is to enter the Higher Institute of Youth and Sports in Yaounde. I have no other income earning activity. I have participated in other races in Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and the USA. I married six months ago.” These are the fresh expressions of the 2011 winner of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. The athletes complained of slippery and muddy terrain due to a heavy down pour in Buea on the eve while the event was being launched on the Molyko Stadium by Sports and Physical Education Minister, Michel Zoah. Many saw the rain as showers of blessings to this year’s race event. Rightly too, because for once race goers could see, like the eagle eye, the landscape of the race flank of the mountain from the Molyko Stadium.
“I hope to go international”
