UEFA Champions League: Four Cameroonians in Quarter Finals

Eto’o Fils, Assou Ekotto, Sebastien Bassong and Joel Matip will be involved with their respective clubs. Though the Indomitable Lions are in a precarious situation in the qualifiers for the 2012 African Cup of Nations, Cameroonian players continue to excel with their respective clubs in Europe.  Samuel Eto’o will be involved in quarter final action with his club side, Inter Milan, whereas Assou Ekotto and Sebastien Bassong will be involved with Tottenham and Joel Matip with Schalke 04.

However, the most spectacular performance of Cameroonians still involved in the competition has come from prolific goal fetcher, Samuel Eto’o Fils. Eto’o was the brain behind Inter Milan’s dramatic 3-2 win over Bayern Munich to clinch a quarterfinal spot on 3-3 aggregate but sailing through on away goals. A goal and two decisive passes from Eto’o enabled Inter Milan to turn the tables after losing 0-1 in the away leg. The goal lands Eto’o on eight goals in the prestigious European Champions’ League, making him co-highest goal scorer in the competition.

Meanwhile, the eight teams to be involved in the quarter finals are now know after the last return leg 8th finals matches yesterday. They include defending champions Inter Milan, FC Barcelona who ousted Arsenal 4-3 on aggregate, Shakhtar Donetsk who walloped Roma 6-2 on aggregate, Tottenham who edged past AC Milan 1-0 on aggregate, Schalke 04, Manchester United,
