Parliament: PM Solicits Suggestions For Recruitment of Youths

Prime Minister Philemon Yang has assured Cameroonians that the ongoing recruitment of 25,000 certificate-holders into the public service offers equal opportunities to all applicants, is transparent and simplified. The Head of Government was speaking at the National Assembly on Friday, March 18 during a question time plenary sitting concerning the recruitment process. The House Speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril chaired the plenary sitting in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Gregoire Owona.

Hon. Monjowa Lifaka Emilia asked the Prime Minister how the recruitment exercise is done, the need to decentralise the stage of submitting application files down to Sub-divisional Offices and the exact proportion of candidates to be recruited from each of the 10 regions. “As at now, it is only in Yaounde that other centres have been created besides the Governor’s Office for the submission of application files because there is a mass of people and this makes it difficult for the files to be treated in one small office”, the Prime Minister said in an interview after answering questions in the National Assembly. “Concerning the other places, there are yet no problem”, he said and declared, “However, we are flexible. If there is a problem in any place, the team working on the process will listen and find solutions”. Mr Yang said the Commission working on the recruitment process will readily accept suggestions from Parliament, stating that the Commission is and will remain flexible.

The Prime Minister gave details concerning the recruitment process. He said March 14 to April 14, 2011 is the period for the reception of application files, the list of selected candidates will be published on June 2, postings will be on June 6 and their formal engagement will start on June 27, 2011. Mr Yang specified that the selection will be through the study of application files, registration is free of charge and receipts are given to applicants upon the submission of their files at the Governor’s Offices and Cameroon’s diplomatic missions. He declared that the application forms were free and could be got in all Regional Delegations of the Public Service and Administrative Reform, down loaded from the websites of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Public Service.

Mineral Resources

The second preoccupation of parliamentarians in Friday’s plenary sitting was to know Cameroon’s mineral resources, where they are located and strategies to attract investors. Hon. Awudu Mbaya Cyprian put the question to the Minister of Industries, Mines and Technological Development, Badel Ndanga Ndinga. The Minister equally answered questions from Hon Paul Nji Tumasang concerning Cameroon’s preparedness to tackle offshore oil spills should such an accident occur. The Minister listed six categories of mineral resources in the country, where they are found and said the strategy to attract investors is contained in Cameroon’s Mining Code that gives tax and custom exemptions. Badel Ndanga Ndinga also explained the emergency plans by government, oil exploration and production companies and the Gulf of Guinea Commission to tackle oil spills both offshore and onshore.
