NEPAD New Mandate Discussed in MINREX

The Chief Executive Officer of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Planning and Coordinating Agency, Dr Ibrahim Assane Mayaki says the agency has a new mandate focused on two priority projects; agriculture and infrastructure.

He was at Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relations yesterday, March 22, to brief Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi on the current status of the Agency within its new mandate.

Speaking to the press after discussions with Minister Eyebe Ayissi, Dr Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, who is the former Prime Minister of Niger, said, “the new mandate of the NEPAD Agency is derived from the integration of NEPAD into the African Union”, and added that “NEPAD is the development agency of the African Union”. The NEPAD Agency based in Midrand, South Africa, has new orientations focused on the implementation of projects and the achievement of concrete results on the field. “We have to move fast and pragmatically” , he said, stating that this would be the best way of upgrading the Agency’s communication system by being in touch with its stakeholders, countries, regions, the private sector and civil society organisations.

The audience was an occasion for the NEPAD Agency boss to get Minister Eyebe Ayissi’s perception, analysis and comments on the new orientations. He lauded Cameroon for always contributing to boost the activities of NEPAD. He described the discussions with Cameroon’s External Relations Minister as fruitful and enriching.
