Minister Louis Bapès Bapès yesterday in Limbe opened a three-day conference to review curricula of General Certificate of Education examinations.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapès Bapès, on Tuesday April 05, presided at the opening of a three-day conference on the review of curricula of examinations organized by the Cameroon General Certificate of Education, GCE, Board. Addressing participants, Louis Bapès Bapès lauded the 17 year-old cooperation between government and the GCE Board. He noted that the GCE Board and the Baccalaureat Office have been playing key roles in implementing education policies in the country.

Given the indispensable role of education in any nation, Louis Bapès Bapès said GCE curricula should pave way for development. He concluded that school and examination syllabuses should be regularly reviewed to ensure that knowledge acquired keeps pace with development innovations in the society.

In a keynote presentation, the Secretary General in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Prof. Ivo Leke Tambo, contextualized the raison d’etre of the conference. His paper focused on its conceptual framework, the need for review of syllabuses. He made proposals which if adopted, will have a positive effect on the Cameroon educational system.

In attendance at the conference are national and international stakeholders. There are 13 different committees with well defined roles and responsibility. Prior to yesterday’s opening ceremony, some of the intended changes had been made public such as the introduction of Logic and Citizenship in the Ordinary Level and English Language in the Advanced Level syllabuses.
