According to the terms of the agreement, MUCADEC will provide technical and financial support for income-generating and growth-driven projects so as to bail youths out of unemployment and poverty. “This agreement is fruit of numerous synergies grouping Hon. Etoundi who had a project to boost youth entrepreneurship, the French Embassy that is chipping in some money and MUCADEC which is bringing in technical expertise”, Mr Marguin explained. He did not however disclose how much the French embassy is contributing. He, like Hon. Etoundi, said the partnership will help those with viable projects to implement them both for their good and that of the entire community.
The project saw the light of day in May 2010 when the MP organised trainings for young entrepreneurs. A total of 200 youths are expected to be trained in entrepreneurship and job creation by 2012. “I was motivated by the fact that all Cameroonians need to give a push to government’s efforts to improve youth employment. Given that most youths are striving to get jobs in the public service, I thought I should look for an alternative way, which is self-employment”, Hon. Emah Etoundi said. He added that even with the announced recruitment of 25,000 certificate holders into the public service, so many youths will still be left. Having the capacity to recruit themselves and others, he added, will be something laudable, reason for the communal support fund.
