A French expatriate, Paul Schneider was on thursday April 14 found alive in a pool of his blood beside a night club in Akwa, Douala with a life-threatening wound on his chest. It is believed he was attacked and stabbed by armed bandits as he and his Cameroonian lover made their way to Akwa Palace Hotel where he was staying. The fatal attack which occurred at about 4 a.m. marked the end of the life of the expatriate who is reported to have set foot on Cameroonian soil two months ago.
Early response from Ngodi-based fire fighters conveyed the bleeding man to the Daniel Muna Memorial Clinic in Bonanjo. Before breathing his last, Paul Schneider said he was attacked by suspected armed robbers, two of whom the Judicial Police later arrested.
The corpse was later transferred to the Laquintinie Hospital Mortuary. It is not clear why the slain expatriate was assaulted. Police sources say one of the arrested suspects picked up close to the scene of the crime has reportedly confessed stabbing Schneider on the chest. Although one of the three suspects is still at large, a second was arrested hours later after security forces mounted a manhunt that took them through several neighbourhoods.
