Kupe-Muanenguba Records Over 10,000 New Voters

Kupe-Muanenguba Division in the South West Region now has over 10,218 new voters on electoral list in the drive to register 25,000 new voters to attain at least 75,000 overall voters when the Electoral College is convened for the upcoming presidential elections.

This is the major outcome of the third evaluation committee meeting of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement (CPDM) which held in Nguti last Saturday April 16 under the auspices of CPDM Central Committee Resource Person to boost voter registration in the Division, Prof. Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, who is also Minister of Forestry and Wildlife.

According to reports from the three CPDM sections that make up Kupe-Maunenguba Division, there are concerted efforts to get as many new voters as possible on the voter’s list although there are still speed brakes blamed largely on the remote nature of some of the villages in the Division. Reports from the second evaluation meeting which held on March 12 show that as at March 5, Kupe-Muanenguba 1, Bangem, had registered 2,085 new voters, Kupe-Muanenguba II, Nguti, had registered 2,712 meanwhile Kupe-Muanenguba III, Tombel, had reached 4,243. As at Saturday April 16, Bangem had moved to 2,533 new voters, Nguti had registered 2,508 while Tombel had moved to 5,683 new voters.

Prof. Ngolle Ngolle told the respective committees that the reports show some progress but were yet to reach the target set for each of the sections. Kupe-Muanenguba 1, he reminded, had a target of 5,000 new voters, 7,000 for Kupe-Muanenguba II and 10,000 for Kupe-Muanenguba III. Looking at the hitches which the committees presented, ranging from inaccessibility of some areas, insufficient logistics to some potential voters who lack the national identity cards, the Minister and his accompanying delegation sought means of surmounting these challenges to boost the exercise. With a FCFA one million donation from Prof. Ngolle Ngolle and other contributions from other elites, some FCFA 1,667,500 liquid cash was raised to clear some of the speed brakes. Others donated vehicles that could transport the officials towards the population for the exercise.

Talking to the press, Prof. Ngolle Ngolle sounded upbeat, saying that since the evaluation meeting coincided with the elective general assembly of the Kupe-Muanenguba Chiefs Conference and their determination demonstrated during the meeting to partner with the Divisional committee was telling of better days ahead. “After this third evaluation meeting, the message we have for our people is that they should stay together, be steadfast and not lose sight of the essential. We have only one objective to register at least 75,000 voters so that come Election Day, all can and should vote for the CPDM candidate, President Paul Biya”, Prof. Ngolle Ngolle said.
