Police Chiefs of Central Africa Concerned Over Cross-border Criminality

The 15th session of Technical Sub-committees of the Committee of Chiefs of Police of Central Africa (CCPAC) opened in Yaounde last Wednesday.

Cyber crime, drug trafficking, illicit movement of arms, proliferation of fake drugs among others, are major threats in the Central African sub region. It is in this light that the 15th session of Technical Sub-committees of the Committee of Chiefs of Police of Central Africa (CCPAC) opened in Yaounde last Wednesday June 1. The event brought together cabinet ministers, representatives of the diplomatic corps and guests.

Speaking during the opening, the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, said the Yaounde meeting comes at a time when the sub region is facing an increase in crime wave in which Cameroon is not left out. He said high crime wave is of great concern to government and important for developing criminal records of escapees from prisons and other criminals. He called on the participants to make concrete proposals for the putting in place of a common strategy in the fight against trans-border crime. The opening ceremony of the 15th session of the technical sub-committee of CCPAC was co-presided for the first time by police two police chiefs, notably Cameroon’s Martin Mbarga Nguele and Gabon’s Antoine Embinga Ondounda.

The objective of the meeting is to implement decisions and recommendations of the last technical sub committee meeting which took place in Libreville, Gabon, last October and prepare for the meeting of Committee of Chiefs of Police in Central Africa to take place next October in Ndjamena, Chad. For three days, participants will discuss issues such as the fight against trans-border crime, security in CEMAC border communities through the CEMAC-Interpol agreement which is expected to be signed during the 12th meeting of CCPAC in Njdamena.
