Doume Sub-division: Over 98 Per cent Of Potential Voters Registered

Contrary to the general trend all over the country where party and electoral officials have been battling to get more register for elections, the situation in Doume Subdivision, Upper Nyong Division of East Region, is much different. According to the newly appointed Divisional Officer, Ndjana Yves Bertrand Noel, more than 98 per cent of people of voting age in the Subdivision have already registered. He commended officials of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, for doing a good job by already visiting all the 18 villages of the administrative unit.

Speaking to Cameroon Tribune in Doume last Saturday June 4, he disclosed that the number of registered voters now stands at 6,104 – with 3,104 newly registered and the remaining 3,000 being from the old list transferred by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, MINATD to ELECAM. The DO said less than 500 potential voters are still to register, expressing hope that the total number of registered people could eventually be raised to 6,500 before the close of the exercise fixed for the end of next August.

On the free issuance of National Identity Cards recently instructed by the Head of State, President Paul Biya, Ndjana Yves Bertrand Noel said it was welcomed with a lot of joy by the people. Since the beginning of the exercise on June 1, the number of applicants has doubled from a daily average of 10 to 20. “All is going on smoothly and the people are showing much interest,” he concluded.
