China to Boost Cameroon’s Agriculture

The People’s Republic of China is seeking ways of boosting agricultural production in Cameroon in a bite to ensure food security and sufficiency in the country as well as deepen the already existing cordial relations it entertains with Cameroon. A delegation of members of the Economic Affairs Commission of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, on an official visit in the country, was yesterday received in audience by the Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.

Speaking to the press through an interpreter after the over 30 minutes audience, the leader of the delegation, Zhang Zuoji, said besides the China-Cameroon relations, especially in the socio-economic domains, which were under review, their meeting with the House Speaker was also to seek ways of delving deeper into agriculture. He did not however specify what they intend to do, stating that their visit is to explore Cameroon’s agricultural potentials.

According to the delegation leader, who is also a member of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the two governments will need to discuss at length on the project.

After the audience, the Chinese delegation drove to the National Assembly where they held a working session with members of the Production and Trade Committee. According to their programme, they would today visit the Mfou National Parc, hold discussions with the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as visit some China-Cameroon projects, notably the Yaounde Conference Centre and the Warda Multipurpose Sports Complex. The delegation was accompanied to the audience by the country’s Ambassador in Cameroon, Xue Jinwei.
