SDF Maintains Stance on ELECAM

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition Social Democratic Front party (SDF) emerged from yet another meeting on June 11th and 12th, 2011 without any shift in their position against Elections Cameroon, (ELECAM). The National Chairman of the party, John Fru Ndi, presided at the session in his Ntarinkon-Bamenda residence which once again, cast doubts on ELECAM’s ability to organise free, fair and transparent elections in Cameroon.

Briefing the press at the end, SDF’s Shadow Cabinet Minister of Justice, Prof. Ndiva Kofele Kale, said “Not even the SDF National Convention is on our agenda because ELECAM is yet to reassure us that it can rise to expectation in organising transparent presidential election in 2011. It is premature talking about an SDF Convention and the selection of a candidate because we first need a conducive environment. We continue to hope that President Biya and the government will realise that they also have a vested interest in transparent elections. It is our wish that the President should meet the SDF National Chairman and discuss our reservations about ELECAM”, he added.

The NEC session also featured reports from regional structures and the need for party materials (wrappers and T-shirts) to be printed in Nigeria and China where production cost is low and in order to avoid scarcity and lateness in delivery.
