Maputo Games: Volleyball, Karate Lions Receive Heroic Welcome

Members of the national volleyball and karate squads, who took part at the ongoing All African Games in Maputo, were treated to a heroic welcome when they touched down on Friday night at the Nsimalen International airport. On hand to receive them was the director of high level sports, Omgba Blaisse, representing the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, friends and family members. There was also a detachment of the INJS band which dished out tunes as the players file past. The director of high level sports said, his presence at the airport was sign of gratitude of the government for the honourable performance recorded saying there will be a solemn ceremony to welcome the whole delegation at the end of the games. The volleyball and karate delegations completed their mission rather too fast. In volleyball they won one gold and one silver medal whereas in karate, they won one gold and three bronze medals. The coach of the Karate male team, Tchoffo Oscar, expressed gratitude to the nature of welcome reserved for them saying it is proof that Cameroonians were in communion with them while they were in Maputo. A feeling that was shared by the coach of the men’s volleyball team, Peter Nonnenbroich, who said he was confident even before the competition that they were going to win. With the gold medal now in the bag, the focus of the national volleyball team is the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. In fact, there is no rest for the volleyball lions who continue to stay in camp in preparation for the cup of nations;
