The Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Madeleine Tchuinte, has called on Messrs Woin Noé and Joseph Aubert Mouen Bedimo, the newly appointed General Manager and Deputy General Manager, respectively, of the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development, IRAD, to implement the tasks assigned upon them with method, objectivity, pragmatism and respect for hierarchy.
The Minister was speaking while presiding over the solemn commissioning ceremony that held yesterday, September 19 at IRAD’s head office in Nkolbisson Yaounde. Madeleine Tchuinte situated the importance of the September 12 Presidential Decree appointing IRAD’s new management and called on the duo to be scientific coordinators and tireless animators of agricultural research throughout the national territory. “You must not forget that in case of any managerial incompetence on your part or attitude obstructing the smooth running of this institution, sanctions will be unavoidable,” she cautioned the new team. While congratulating the outgoing general manager, Jacob Mbua Ngeve for a job well done, the Minister told the new team to, amongst others, disburse financing to all operational structures and profitable projects, rehabilitate old structures, construct a new head office, and make available high-yield seedlings and animal breeds with great resistance to diseases.
IRAD is one of the main research structures in Cameroon. It was born out of a fusion of two research institutions in 1996 and reorganised in 2002. IRAD conducts research aimed at promoting agricultural development in the domains of plant, animal, fisheries and forestry production as well as food and agro-industrial technologies.
