Excellence Recommended For 2011/2012 Pedagogic Year

The Minister of Secondary Education launched activities for the year in Nkolbisson, Yaounde on wednesday.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapès Bapès has challenged inspectors of pedagogy, regional delegates, national coordinators of pedagogic inspectors, divisional delegates, national pedagogic inspectors, regional coordinators of pedagogic inspectors, support heads of pedagogic action and other stakeholders to work meticulously for excellence in the 2011/2012 academic year. The Minister was speaking in Government Technical High School, Yaounde as he officially opened the 2011/2012 pedagogic year.

Louis Bapès Bapès said though it was a ritual to bring stakeholders in the sector to draw a balance sheet of the year ended and plan into the future, this year’s meeting was coming at a time when the sector is in dire need of improving results of certificate examinations. While appreciating strides made last year, the Minister cautioned them to ensure that examinations are within the reach of learners, which according to him was not the case in 2010/2011. This, he blamed on laxity and lack of motivation on the part of some school heads.

With the theme “Pedagogy of Excellence for the Advent of Civic Society,” the Minister launched the project to revisit the curriculums of secondary education, while emphasising that obsolete syllabuses for some technical subjects will be revised. In the quest for excellence, the sector is in need of actors void of corrupt practices, absenteeism and lack of creativity. The management of funds allocated to different services and observance of pedagogy remains a priority. The creation of new courses in technical education and the opening of new ones like Information Technology in the general education has seen the light of day and eyes turned on stakeholders for their effective take-off.

In her presentation of the balance sheet of the 2010/2011 academic year, the Inspector General of Education, Evelyne Mpoudi Ngolle, explained that the lapses recorded were blamed on the negligence of some principals. She said some of them did not assist Inspectors of Pedagogy in carrying out tasks as was supposed to be the case. However, the strides recorded that ranged from the training of more than 26,000 stakeholders in the sector to the promotion of bilingualism and drawing up of subjects, she said, thanks to the efforts put in place by a host of stakeholders in the sector to see that the country maintains its position in the education sector.
