The Cameroonian delegation comprising officials of the Ministry of Sports and Physical education and Fecafoot, as well as security, medical and technical staff left the country on board Camairco last Saturday via Douala to Belgium. The bulk of the players arrived in Belgium yesterday including team captain Samuel Eto’o who has been recently appointed captain of his club side, Anhzi. They visited the stadium where they are training later on in the afternoon. Serious business starts today with two training sessions in the morning and afternoon respectively. The Lions leave Brussels for Kinshasa tomorrow where they will take up residence at the Memling hotel. There will be a pre-match press conference the next day at 11 a.m. and in the afternoon at 3p.m. the squad will visit the venue of the event at the Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa. There will be no respite for the Lions as they leave immediately after the match on Friday for Douala for onward movement to Equatorial Guinea on Monday October 10 where they are scheduled to play a friendly match against the home side, Nzalang National on October 11.
The national selection is under reconstruction, reason why team coach, Javier Clemente, has decided to inject new blood into the squad, notably the maiden selection of Effala Konguep, who came to the lime light during the Under 20 African cup of Nations in South Africa and the Under 20 World Cup in Colombia. The lone amateur in the selection, says he will use the opportunity to prove that the coach did not make a mistake in choosing him. Meanwhile, Joel Matip may be the only player not top honour the rendezvous as he is presently injured.
