D.R. Congo-Cameroon Showdown Tomorrow

The encounter counts for the 6th and last day of play of the qualifiers for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will go down the pitch of play at the Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa to challenge the Simbas in their own backyard. The match counts for the 6th and last day of play of the qualifiers for the 2012 African Cup of Nations to take place in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. It will be a clash of egos as both sides are already eliminated from the race for Gabon-Equatorial Guinea 2012 and smacks of revenge for Cameroon who were stunned in the away leg by a 1-1 draw at the Roumdé Adja stadium in Garoua, a humiliating result which sounded like defeat to Cameroon.

After a two-day training camp in Belgium, the Indomitable Lions flew to the Democratic Republic of Congo yesterday to take up residence at the prestigious Memling hotel in Kinshasa. As we earlier predicted, only 17 out of the 21 called to camp honoured the rendezvous with Joel Matip, Benoit Angbwa, Matthew Adongcho and Ngako Deutcha unable to make it. After serving a two match suspension for unruly behaviour with the Olympic squad, Abouna Ndzana was called up to replace Benoit Angbwa. From the nature of the training in Brussels, it is likely that Eyong Enoh will be playing at the right flank, according to the team press officer, Linus Pascal Fouda. The decision to summon a home-based player was motivated by the fact that it takes a 14-day notification for a club to release a player prior to the encounter.

Meanwhile, a storm has blown through the national team taking the all powerful administrative director of the nation team, André Nguijol, who has been suspended for three months by the Prime Minister over the siphoning of Eto’o’s bonuses. Given that Nguijol is due retirement in December, it is unlikely for him to make a come back as he did under the administration of Augustin Thierry Edjoa, after having been fired by former Minister, Bidoung Mpatt. The director of high level sports, Blaise Omgbwa, has been appointed to assure the interim.

Javier Clemente has broke the silence concerning his future at the helm of the Indomitable Lions saying he has no plans to resign no matter the outcome of the encounter against the Democratic republic of Congo. He declared having a long term project for Cameroon as the team is under construction. In a related development, Fecafoot has refuted allegations that Cameroon was about to hire the service of disgraced former French coach, Raymond Domenech.
