The seminar which involves 81 participants including mayors, secretary generals, council paymasters, and council staff, is being facilitated by four resources people; Mr. Boniface Megouo, Mr. Ongon Thomas and Mme Nzuno Elizabeth from PNDP West, and Mr. Charlie Martial Ngounou of the civil society.
Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, the SDO for Upper Nkam, Mr. Haman Dahirou, thanked PNDP for making these council officials come together to acquire knowledge to defend the vision of development in their various council areas. He appreciated the collaboration between PNDP and councils in the West Region to maximize the social and economies benefits of partnership. He expressed optimism that at the end of the seminar, participants must have acquired knowledge that will enable them adopt an integrated development approach which will meet PNDP’s wish.
On his part, Mr. Boniface MEGOUO, PNDP Regional Coordinator for the West revealed that the seminar was coming up three months after PNDP and its council partners agreed on the recruitment of some council workers; an agreement which will go along way to provide a framework in which to move towards a more accessible and stable financial management in these councils.
Mr. Boniface Megouo revealed that the seminar is an initiative of PNDP to bring more flexibility in council affairs, especially good economic governance. "We have brought all of them together to help, through resource persons, to define each person’s role in council management," Mr.Boniface Megouo noted. He said PNDP carried out a survey and noticed that these councils had the problems of human resources, and asked the councils to recruit workers in charge of financial and development issues. In order to have good results, PNDP had to organize the seminar that ends on 16 October.
