Government has made it a tradition at the beginning of every academic year to support the functioning of schools. Usually, the support is either in the form of subsidies, funding or stationery whose management was recently devolved to local councils in the on-going decentralization process.
Last Thursday October 13, the Douala V Sub-divisional Council donated writing material to 26 public primary schools in the council area. The material were handed over to head teachers or their representatives by Council authorities in the presence of the Divisional Officer, DO for Douala V, Jeannot Tamandjo. Each school received gifts including boxes of chalk, packets of pens, exercise books, files, and rulers, as well as money for their transportation.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Mayor Francoise Foning said the council has added more to the offer as dividends of the devolution of power. She said the offer was to encourage the efforts of the Ministry of Basic Education in supporting the management of schools.
