A young man, Bertin Koracam was on Sunday October 16, reportedly caught in possession of a stolen motor bike at Eleveurs, Yaounde. The owner of the bike, Petkeu Eric, said it went missing two weeks ago.
He explained that the theft took place when he packed his bike in front of his home behind Chapel Ngousso in the Ngousso neighbourhood of Yaounde. But upon return, he did not find it. He then alerted his friends who began a search for it only to find out from the person from whom he had bought the motor bike that an unknown person was seen with in the Eleveurs neighbourhood.
On hearing this, Eric Petkeu immediately boarded another motor bike that followed the suspect and eventually caught up with him. After verification by the owner, he recognised it and on questioning the suspect, the latter said he was handed the bike by a certain David who owns a garage near Etoudi to work with it. Eric reportedly claimed he did not bother to ask for the papers of the bike.
Eric was thus taken to a witness of the theft who actually recognised him as the person he saw taking away the motor bike the day it went missing. The huge crowd that had gathered at this moment round the scene took hold of the suspected bandit and began beating him. It was thanks to the intervention of a police woman who happened to be passing by that the alleged robber was saved and taken to the Etoudi Police Station where he is still being detained. Investigations into the matter are continuing for justice to take its course.
